We're Bringing Cozy Back!
It may be time to pull out the toque and mitts but don’t worry we’ve got creative ways to warm your heart and warm your hands. Cue the return of Hygge Hut and Nordic Loop!
Last year we dreamed up winter community spaces to get some much-needed social interaction and see faces and spaces outside of our own four walls. We welcomed Hygge Hut and Nordic Loop to our neighborhood as ways to get out of the house, find inspiration and feel rejuvenated. Long story short, they were a hit and it was a no-brainer to bring them back for another season.
Even in the coldest Calgary winters, East Village is where you come to start the adventure and you might just find yourself getting happy with winter.
Hygge Hut
Hygge Hut - pronounced “hoo-ga” - is our Scandinavian-style space is inspired by the Danish idea of Hygge, which means a special kind of well-being—it’s a cozy, easy togetherness.
This season, Hygge Hut was reimagined to be bigger, better and cozier than ever and has a new home in C-Square! We’ll have weekly interactive live ice carving demonstrations, pop-up food trucks, hot chocolate, fireside storytimes, community dog walks, live music, a pop-up Christmas tree lot and no shortage of good company! Check out the programming and pop-up activities for the week here.
You’ll know you’re in the right place when the familiar smell of campfire hits your nose and gives you all the camping and nature feels without having to leave the city. Hygge Hut will be our designated place to get your hands on some EV Merch, pick up a map to the neighbourhood, connect with EAST team, or warm up after a trek on Nordic Loop.
Find us on 4 St SE and 7 Ave SE, neighboured by the C-train track. Hygge Hut is open Fridays 2 pm - 6 pm, Saturdays, Sundays and Statutory Holidays 12 pm - 6 pm.

This is your chance to grab life by the poles and experience cross-country skiing (and snow-shoeing) in the city! Presented in partnership with Foothills Nordic and Fort Calgary, Nordic Loop is a free 1km groomed trail open to people of all abilities. Fort Calgary has been a great gathering place for thousands of years, and with the Nordic Loop, it’s better than ever. Don’t forget to BYOS - Bring Your Own Skis and we’ll see you on the loop!
EV MERCH
EV Merch is a line of wearables and wares that celebrates our city and each product was uniquely created in partnership with local artists and entrepreneurs. We are in our third season of EV Merch and have partnered with some amazing local makers, artists and entrepreneurs over the years. We are pumped to announce the addition of five new items and a new community partner! All proceeds from sales go to Calgary Pride, a not-for-profit organization that exists to promote equality and celebrate Calgary’s diversity.
Not to brag, but we think our merch is pretty cool. Here are a few new and returning items we think you might love:
limited edition wooden stickers, designed by award winning artist Jenn Kitigawa featuring iconic architecture from East Village, like the historic Simmons building, Central Library and Platform Innovation Centre & Parkade.
socks made by Friday Sock Co that showcase the iconic neon signs of East Village
an epic colouring/activity book for your little adventurers that will have you exploring every corner of Calgary.
Head over to Hygge Hut to shop & browse, or order online and select curb-side pickup to collect your items and maybe have a hot chocolate while you’re at it.
