Something colourful, vibrant and wonderfully whimsical has come to St. Patrick’s Island! We’ve tapped local organization PARK (Promoting Artists | Redefining Kulture) to bring an interactive, temporary art installation to Confluence Plaza, located on the east end of the island. #VIBRANCEYYC offers Calgarians a new way to stay connected and active while still following physical distancing guidelines.

Launching Monday, July 20th, the installation will help to activate the space with programming, thanks to a ground mural that incorporates physical distancing circles. Local artist Leechuts (alias of Leetia Lyons) designed the artwork, Colour Topography, to enable a safe 2-metre distance between the participants of fitness classes and dance lessons.

To add another pop of colour to Confluence Plaza, artist Michelle Hoogveld created an overhead spectrum of swaying colour. This installation, Resonance of Colour, represents the emotional shifts faced by the ever-evolving dynamics of COVID-19. “It is through this vibrant process of resiliency where we continue to come together, creating connection amongst the many colours of change,” says Hoogveld.

Calgarians can enjoy the splendor of #VIBRANCEYYC by simply taking a stroll through Confluence Plaza, or by signing up for a group program. Barre Body Studio will be the first to use the space with their ‘Barre in the Park’ class running every Tuesday evening, while Alberta Dancesport will host ballroom classes on Saturdays.

No matter how you experience the installation, you’ll want to remember your camera! Share your photos by using the #VIBRANCEYYC hashtag and be sure to tag us at @eastvillageyyc on Instagram and Twitter.
