EV Cycle Tracks Now Open

Cyclist rides in a cycle track in East Village Calgary

We’re gearing into two-wheel drive! The East Village cycle tracks are now open, which means getting around the neighbourhood is easier than ever. The new tracks – which connect 9th Ave SE to RiverWalk – also tie into The City of Calgary’s broader cycling infrastructure, so pedaling into downtown and surrounding communities is a breeze.

Completed in just two months, the East Village Cycling Improvements project was a collaboration between The City of Calgary and EV master developer, Calgary Municipal Land Corporation. The two groups worked closely together to bring about this piece of infrastructure; a key component of the East Village Master Plan, which envisions the neighbourhood as a well-connected area with walkable, bikeable streets.

So whether you’re a regular cyclist who commutes to work every day, or you’re hopping on an e-bike to get to the Bow pathways, the East Village cycle tracks will help you get where you’re going. Pedestrians will appreciate the new tracks, too – they work double-time as a traffic-calming measure, which helps to keep everyone safe.

To celebrate the opening of our new cycling infrastructure, we’re giving away a Bow Cycle bike (valued up to $500), so start brushing up on your city cycling know-how! To enter the giveaway, you'll have to answer the cycling trivia questions in our Instagram Story. You'll want to stay tuned over the coming weeks, because each correct trivia answer will give you a contest entry. The winner will be randomly drawn and contacted on Monday, December 2.
