Great public art. I dream of the day that Calgary has an area like millenium park in Chicago... This is what separates the mediocre cities of the world from the likes of New York and London. ...

Connectivity. I wish that our urban neighborhoods would be more continuous, lengthly and connected to other important areas. We need 4-5m wide pedestrian and bike walkways throughout the urban centre that connect everything. For example, it would be nice to see a very wide pedestrian pathway leading from SAIT down 10th street, running trough kensington, and eventually connecting to the Eau Claire 5m wide pathway. From Eau Claire, we need to develop a direct link to the Beltline, 17th ave and 4th street.

There needs to be more small shops and small businesses near the Bow River, akin to Granville Island or English Bay.

The RiverWalk pathway system is under construciton & once completed will form a continuous pedestrian link from Centre Street Bridge all the way to Lindsay Park. The first phase will be open this fall and will connect from 3rd Street SE to the Simmons Building in East Village!!!!!

Are there any plans for a large Calgary art gallery in East Village, something like the Art Museum in Phoenix or the ones in other cities like New York and London? Is it true that the Library is rebuilding in East village?

Calgary needs more people living in downtown.

MORE PUBLIC ART!!!! More walkways. More good cafes and coffee shops and bakeries and small trendy restaurants, with less fast food everywhere. More bike paths. More buskers and street entertainers. More museums (to compete with Edmonton's, now) and art galleries. More festivals and fairs. More MARKETS!! Calgary's downtown is big enough to host flea markets or art markets or fashion markets (or all three), so we should take advantage of that. More street cafes, with chairs and tables outside to people-watch.

I'd like to see more small independent businesses (fewer starbucks) but mostly downtown is missing people. There's a sense of eerie abandonment after 6pm. We need places that stay open in the evening along with people living in the core and that won't happen without grocery stores and a feeling of security and safety.

all these shops cafes will come and follow the crowd so hopefully east village will bring in enough people to make it vibrant after 18:00 my problem is that the timeline is 20years ... i am not sure i can wait that long ... just move to a city that already has it all
